Do you have a son, grandson, nephew, or little pal who loves to create beautiful and delicious things in the kitchen?
My forthcoming middle grade novel, Marvelous Jackson (launching September 10), is about a struggling thirteen-year-old who finds a new sense of purpose and hope when he falls in love with baking. I know that there are boys just like Jack out there who are similarly obsessed with scones, sprinkles, cakes, and cookies.
I have partnered with the fabulous Shepherd for Readers (an extraordinary website that's akin to wandering the aisles of your favorite bookstore), to develop a list of five contemporary middle grade novels for boys who love to bake. Take a peek: The best middle grade novels for boys who love to bake (shepherd.com)
I'm so excited about my list, because all the books are cut from the same yummy and entertaining cloth as Marvelous Jackson. They're written by stellar authors including Gillian Dunn, Jessie Janowitz, and Phil Stamper.
And now, please excuse me while I hunt down a cupcake to nibble on. Reading about all these sweets has made me very hungry.
